SymbioCare Conference, Budapest, 2012

Dr. Miklós Szócska State Secretary, State Secretariat for Health, Ministry of Human Resources
Karin Johansson, State Secretary for Health (Sweden)
Karin Olofsdotter, Ambassador of Sweden in Budapest

SymbioCare is a Swedish program focusing on sustained healthcare. The purpose of concept is to provide high quality healthcare for everyone by effective linking and cost-saving utilisation of the available resources.

Both the Swedish and the Hungarian State Secretaries highlighted that the release of inner effectiveness reserves was one of the key aspects of the sustainability of the whole sector. There is an especially good situation in Hungary, as the Semmelweis Plan specifically provides a defined framework for this concept. One of the best examples in practice includes the initiative of PAMOK, where the most difficult healthcare task, the medical care of incontinence was optimized with great success.

Incontinence Directive

Conclusions of the Advanced Training Course of the International Continence Society. 11 October 2012, Budapest Incontinences, the deficiencies of urinary and faecal retention are known to have adverse effect on health and can seriously affect quality of life. The social stigma may jeopardise family life and work. Many people with incontinence hide their condition even from the family doctor, which endangers the effectiveness of early treatment. Early identification, diagnosis and prognosis are required for the prevention of many adverse effects. This is the way in which the type of incontinence can be determined and the best treatment is selected. Classification by the International Continence Society differentiates stress, urgency, mixed and neurogenic (associated with nervous system damage) incontinence. Classification of these types supports selection of the best appropriate individual care ranging from non-surgical procedures to surgical interventions. The former category includes pharmacotherapy, bladder gymnastics, physiotherapy and training of pelvic floor, including monitoring, instrumental visual feedback (bio feedback). The membership structure of the International Continence Society and the national societies, the Hungarian Continence Society also reflects the cooperation of medical specialities involved in the treatment. It is very important to raise the awareness of the society regarding prevention, especially in elderly people who are specifically affected. It is the interest of the society that more and more people learn about widespread options of prevention and seek for solutions for their symptoms. Individual, effective, professional treatment is recommended including high quality absorbent pads with optimum function.
